I’ve been seeing regularly on Chicago television and in the newspapers ads for “On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan.”
The show is making a pre-Broadway stop at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre from June 2 to July 5 and hits Broadway in October.
I was a huge fan of Miami Sound Machine in the late 1980s and of Gloria Estefan when she went solo in the early 1990s and was fortunate to see MSM once and Gloria’s solo show. I’ll be honest, I haven’t listened to her music in a while especially her works that came later, but I’m looking forward to seeing this show.
If I can’t make it during this Chicago stop, hopefully the show is a success on Broadway and it will return to Chicago. And it will be in its final version and I think that’s the best way to see a show. Sometimes changes are made to a show between its pre-Broadway tour and when it finally gets to Broadway.
IT’S JUST ME. . .
I saw the reviews for “San Andreas” which opened last night (Thursday, May 28) and they’ve been lukewarm to not good. Even if the reviews had been good, I wasn’t going to see it. I know it’s just a movie with special effects at all, but I just don’t see me paying money to sit down with my popcorn and soda and being entertained about something that could really happen. And experts say if the big one ever hits California, it will be bad. I’ve seen other disaster movies and it was no big deal. But this one hit me a certain way. If you want to go, go. It’s just not for me.
UNTIL NEXT TIME. . .
